Sterling Casket Hardware Company was founded by George R. Bailey, Sr. and his son George R. Bailey, Jr.
in August 1909. They chose the name "Sterling" to signify quality since George R. Bailey, Sr. had previously been a
jeweler. The business began in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Maspeth, New York a number of years later. In 1941, after
the death of George R. Bailey, Sr., Geroge (Bob) R. Bailey, III. and his brother Thomas (Tom) E. Bailey took over Sterling
Casket Hardware. In 1965, Sterling Casket Hardware moved all of its equipment to Abingdon, VA, where Tom Bailey took
over the duties of President / CEO.
Donn L. Bailey, the fourth generation of the Bailey family, joined Sterling in 1998, after 25 years with General Electric.
Through Donn’s efforts, Sterling has moved into the new era of computers and our new cost system assures our customers that
they will receive the lowest prices possible.
